The Enchanted Child Performance and Workshop is a series developed and conducted by
singer/educator Leah Salomaa.
Performance
Leah sings with one or two other musicians to mother's with babies either in the womb or newborn.
This is celebration and healing music, drawing from chants, poems, traditional songs and lullabies.
The performance focuses on the mother to calm and entertain, but also to the baby, to celebrate a
new life and bring positive 'sounds' to this fresh and present being.
It has been proven that at 5 months in utero, the growing baby can hear and feel. The loudest sound
for the feutus is the mother's own voice. Her emotional vibrations and intentions are transmitted to the
health of the baby. When the mother is feeling good (through movement, singing, talking, laughing etc...),
the baby benefits.
These concerts are designed to encourage mothers to relax through beautiful, simple songs. It is
wholesome, nourishing entertainment. One of the rare environments where mother's and babies can
socialize and hear live, non-recorded music!
Workshop
Leah conducts an instructional and participatory class where mothers to be can explore
the age old art of singing to our babies. Mothers will learn new lullabies and songs to calm
themselves during pregnancy and later to bond with their fussy babies!
Women will also meditate on the importance breath and sound has throughout pregnancy, labour and
post partum. When the voice is tight, chances are everything else is too! Opening the voice often leads
to self expression, which is key to stating our needs in labour, sounding through contractions
and communicating with our partners.
Design
Workshops may occurr as on going, weekly classes during the Pre/Post Natal months.
They may also be conducted as 'one off' workshops occuring every month or six weeks.
