According to a new survey, Adele’s “21” has become the highest selling album of this millennium in UK, with sales expected to cross the 5 million mark very soon.
The English singer’s sophomore album has comprehensively beaten Amy Winehouse’s album “Back to Black”.
The album “21” now leads the official list of biggest selling albums of this millennium, as published by the OCC.
The global hit has topped the UK chart for 23 weeks, while selling more than 4.7 million copies in UK alone. It is quite amazing to see “21” and “19”, which are independent projects, included in the “millennium” chart. The famous album 21 was launched in 2011 through XL Recordings, an associate of Beggars Group founded by Martin Mills. In the US, Adele’s albums are launched through a joint venture of Columbia Records and XL. The runner-up position was taken by Amy Winehouse’s second album “Back to Black”, with sales of 3.56 million.
